"Better Be Home Soon -

Neil Finn Sings

A Tribute to

Crowded House Drummer

Paul Hester"

"Better Be Home Soon" - some songs just make you want to cry.

It may be the song itself, or the memories attached to the song. In this case, it's the emotions that link the singer, New Zealander Neil Finn, and the friend and fellow musician in the legendary New Zealand-Australian band "Crowded House" Paul Hester, for whom he sings the song in the video below.

Paul Hester, the happy-go-lucky drummer of Crowded House, who had originally been with Neil Finn in New Zealand band Split Enz, tragically took his life in Melbourne in late March 2005, just as Neil and his older brother, Split Enz co-founder and one time Crowded House member Tim Finn, were appearing at London's Royal Albert Hall promoting their The Finn Brothers album "Everyone Is Here".

The Kiwi brothers interrupted their UK tour to fly down to Australia as the musician's friends and family - and in fact the whole country - puzzled over the reasons for the unexpected turn of events.

This 6 minute video begins with a brief portrait of Paul Hester and then, during a live concert in Australia, Neil Finn plays the last track from the Crowded House album "Woodface", a sadly melodious and poignant accoustic guitar version of "Better Be Home Soon".

The album title "Woodface" most definitely does not apply to this rendition: the feelings expressed by Neil Finn through the song are almost tangible, as you can see in his face and hear for yourself in his voice when you watch "
Better Be Home Soon":
